The best muslei ever
Most muslei you buy in the shops is either sprayed with fat and toasted or contains huge amounts of sugar. And it's always expensive. For this recipe, you can cater to your budget by changing the ratio of rolled oats to other stuff (oats are cheap!). This is what I put in mine, but you can obviously add or substitute with your favourite dried fruit etc.
Ingredients roughly in order of quantity:
rolled oats (lots)
bran sticks (in the US, the best I have found are Nature's Path)
sultanas (golden raisins)
dried apricots
unsalted almonds
sunflower seeds
unsweetened coconut flakes
dried figs
dried cranberries
Toast the almonds (if they are raw) in the oven until they smell good. Put the oats in a large baking tray and toast in the oven until they start to go brown around the edges. Meanwhile chop the apricots, almonds, figs and any other fruit/nuts that you've added and put all fruit, nuts and seeds in a large container. Tip the toasted oats in with the fruit and nuts and mix well. Gently toast the coconut flakes and mix in. Mix in bran sticks to your liking.
When it has all cooled, keep in a sealed container.
Serve with plain yoghurt and honey.
